Introducing Phone Anonymisation

20November,2015 / Australia

Helping people to safely get around our cities  is a huge responsibility, so we’re constantly working to improve our safety features for riders and driver-partners.

This week we’ve introduced new technology to improve the way riders and drivers connect and communicate.

Now, when a rider and driver contact each other regarding a trip, both phone numbers will be anonymised – meaning you will no longer see each other’s personal contact details.

You can expect to see a few changes:

  • When calling or receiving a call from a driver, their number may appear as a landline number.
  • If texting and calling a driver, the numbers may be different.
  • If you’re a regular rider, you may notice the same anonymised number used for different drivers.
  • If ‘Private Number’ is enabled on your phone, you’ll still be able to text your driver but you’ll need to disable it to be able to make calls through the app.

Pro Tip

If you leave something in the driver’s car, contact the Uber support team right away. You can also retrieve a lost item by selecting the drop-down profile menu within the app and tapping on the Help button (see screenshot below).

Alternatively, you can also retrieve a lost item by clicking here.
