This Father’s Day, we celebrate the UberDADS and dad-figures who are driving change in their families and communities.
Hear the stories of four Aussie dads who drive with Uber to make a difference.
Meet Rick
“As a full time carer for my son, driving with Uber earns us a little bit of money on the side, and gets me get out of the house to new meet people.”
Family is number one for dad of seven, Rick. Rick is also a full-time carer to his young son, Lachlan, who lives with a disability and a terminal condition. When Lachlan was born, doctors gave him a life expectancy of one week. Now, at 7 years of age, Lachlan continues to defy the odds. Driving with Uber on the weekend allows Rick some time to himself and the opportunity to meet new people on the road and hear their amazing stories.
Meet John
“I moved to Australia as a refugee. Since then, I’ve founded a charity to feed war orphans and widows of war in South Sudan. I drive to bring change to my family and to others.”
As a Sudanese refugee, John found a way to remain connected to his homeland while living in Australia. Three years ago, he established Mowowfund, a charity that provides food for South Sudanese orphans, unaccompanied minors and war widows. Driving with Uber enables John to afford childcare and school fees for his children, while enabling him and his family to also travel to Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and South Sudan to honour his charity commitments.
Meet Simon
“I’m a stay at home Daddy, and I love that I can be there for my family when they need me. That’s something I’ve always wanted.”
Simon used to deal with numbers as an accountant. Nowadays he ticks off kilometres connecting riders with their cities through Uber, and delivering food with UberEATS. As a stay-at-home father, Simon loves his new flexible schedule enables him to give his undivided attended to his son Henry. Simon’s family continues to grow – soon he and his pregnant wife will welcome twins into their home.
Meet Ross
“With my earnings from Uber, I was able to help pay for my daughter’s wedding, and I’m currently putting money away for an overseas holiday.”
Ross lost his job after the factory he worked at for 36 years went out of business. Facing redundancy at 59, he discovered the lack of job prospects for people his age. That’s when Ross decided to give Uber a go. Ross loves meeting new people while driving with Uber and the extra money he now has, he can spend on important things – like his daughter Candice’s wedding.
Whether they’re riding home in time for bedtime stories or providing safe rides in our cities to support their family – we want to say Happy Father’s Day to Six Star dads everywhere.
