Get set for the tournament of champions as the Australian Open (AO) returns to Melbourne Park from 14-27 January 2019. We’re excited to team up with the AO as the official partner of the largest annual sporting event in the Southern Hemisphere.
More than 725,000 tennis fans are expected to attend the AO this year. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, there will be a dedicated Uber zone opposite AAMI Park (located on the northern side of the Olympic Boulevard, Punt Road end). Staff at Tennis Australia will be directing driver-partners and riders to this area during the events.
Planning to drive with Uber during the AO? Here’s what you need to know:
Uber zones
Dropping off riders
Head to the general public area in front of the Melbourne Arena on Olympic Boulevard or use the dedicated Uber zone opposite AAMI Park.
Picking up riders:
- For uberX, uberXL, and UberSELECT: Pick up riders at the dedicated pick-up zone opposite AAMI Park on the northern side of the Olympic Boulevard, Punt Road end (see the map above).
- For UberBLACK: You can pick up riders at the general public area in front of the Hisense Arena on Olympic Boulevard.
Important: Driver-partners are NOT permitted to use the dedicated Taxi rank in front of Melbourne Park, and won’t be able to drop off or pick up riders on the southern side of Olympic Boulevard. Victoria Police will be issuing fines if these rules aren’t met.
Traffic enforcement will be strict around the venue. For safety reasons we recommend that you stick to the dedicated Uber zones, instead of dropping off riders on the street.
How to enter the Uber zones at Melbourne Park
- Coming from Punt Road, Hoddle Street or Swan Street? Do a U-turn as you get to Melbourne Arena.
- Coming from Alexandra Avenue? Enter the pickup and drop-off areas on the left hand side of Olympic Boulevard as normal. However, expect delays due to heavy congestion.
Road Closures
There will be a partial road closure on 26 January (starting approximately 9.30pm) for vehicles exiting AAMI Park. One lane will be closed for westbound traffic along Olympic Boulevard for 20 minutes.
Peak Times
Based on the 2018 Australian Open, there may be an increase in the number of trip requests on the weekends of the event and at the end of the morning, afternoon and evening sessions.
