ANZ International Women’s Day Celebrations

Last Wednesday the 8th March Uber celebrated International Women’s Day around Australia & New Zealand with the theme #BeBoldForChange.

Uber thanked the women who move our cities with 8 separate events around the region.

Sydney

Venue: All Sorts Function Centre, Alexandria

Attendees: 100

The women who move Sydney… shared morning tea, stories of their time with Uber, and a few laughs on International Women’s Day. Amanda Rose, Publisher of Business Woman Media and Co-Founder of Western Sydney Women, spoke about how women driving with Uber can create their unique personal brand and exude confidence in all aspects of their lives, both on and off the road. There was a feeling of empowerment around the room and many women swapped numbers so they could keep the conversation going!

Melbourne

Venue: National Gallery of Victoria, The Grand Hall  

Attendees: 90

The women who move Melbourne… enjoyed morning tea under the stained glass roof of the Grand Hall at the NGV. Guests enjoyed entertaining stories from driver partner panelists Faye, Erika & Sophie, followed by a tour of the David Hockney exhibition. The carrot cake was delicious & each partner took home a beautiful posy of flowers.

Perth 

Venue: Mind Body Heart Studio

Attendees: 30

The women who move Perth… were treated to an afternoon of relaxation and mindfulness at the beautiful Mind Body Heart Studio. Accomplished business woman and nutritionist Nikki Heyder provided some helpful tips about the importance of healthy eating and looking after yourself. The wonderful Marni from the MBH studio lead us through a relaxation and mindfulness session. The event ended with a delicious (yet still healthy!), afternoon tea from Nood.

Brisbane

Venue: Lightspace

Attendees: 110

The women who move Queensland… were invited to a breakfast bar at Lightspace with members of the Brisbane Lions AFL women’s team. Driver-partners shared empowering stories on the theme #BeBoldForChange, and Lions Captain Emma Zielke revealed that members of the team will be getting behind the wheel as Uber driver-partners shortly!

Adelaide

Venue: Panacea, Halifax Street

Attendees: 20

The women who move Adelaide… were welcomed into the cosy courtyard setting of Panacea where they networked and feasted on exquisite tapas dishes. Rachel Sanderson MP, State Member for Adelaide and successful business woman, gave an empowering speech about the significance of women providing safe and reliable transportation in our community. As a parting gift, women driver-partners were offered chocolate, hand-crafted macarons and a bouquet of locally grown flowers.

Auckland 

Venue: Dumpling Making Class @ Sachie’s Kitchen

Attendees: 15

The women who move Auckland… spent the afternoon learning how to make a variety of hand rolled dumplings at the acclaimed Sachie’s Kitchen. After donning some festive aprons, everyone split into teams and took part in a friendly competition to see who could make the best dumplings. Each team worked together to cook deep fried, pan fried, and poached dumplings, all while dancing to some great tunes! Despite being in last place after the taste testing, Team Sakura showed off their chopstick skills in the final activity and made an epic comeback to win the grand prize!

Christchurch

Venue: Painting Class @ Paint ‘n’ Sip Studio

Attendees: 11

The women who move Christchurch… were invited to explore their artistic abilities during a painting class hosted at Paint ‘n’ Sip studio. After catching up and enjoying some delicious nibbles, the wonderful artist, Sam from Paint ‘n’ Sip, demonstrated how to create a beautiful sunset scene. From there everyone began painting and singing along to the awesome music. The class ended with each person having created a beautiful painting, all with their own unique twist.

Wellington 

Venue: High Tea @ Martha’s Pantry

Attendees: 6

The women who move Wellington… enjoyed a high tea at the lovely Martha’s Pantry. After selecting a fancy hat to wear from Martha’s great selection, driver-partners chose a tea from the extensive collection and enjoyed some delectable finger sandwiches and nibbles. It was a small, intimate event where partners, new and old, were able to share stories, learnings, and feedback with the Uber team.
