As stated in our Community Guidelines, we are committed to helping keep our users and community safe. This includes doing what we can to help encourage safe and responsible alcohol consumption, and supporting our merchants in their compliance obligations under local liquor regulations. Uber Eats also seeks to comply with all local regulations, including provisions under the Retail Drinks Australia (RDA) Code of Conduct (to which Uber Eats is a signatory).
To support this commitment, we have a number of systems in place to help foster a responsible drinking culture in Australia and New Zealand. Details about these systems are available below.
Industry partnerships
To make sure we leverage valuable industry insights and experience, we have partnered with expert groups like DrinkWise and key retail partners to better understand their perspectives on safe and responsible alcohol consumption. Our alcohol safety systems are being continuously improved in partnership with DrinkWIse, and in consultation with those retail partners.
Self exclusion
In line with obligations under local laws and the RDA Code, Uber Eats users can request to no longer be able to place orders for alcohol from their Uber account. To learn more information about self exclusion or to request to be excluded from alcohol, please see our ‘self-exclusion process’.
Merchant and third party exclusion requests
If you suspect that someone you know or a customer may be at risk of unsafe alcohol consumption, or if you’d like us to review their account against our policies, you can let us know by filing an alcohol incident request form. If you want to nominate someone else from seeing and purchasing alcohol items on their Uber Eats app, you can file a request to remove alcohol items from a third party.
Our Safety Support team, who operates 24/7, will look into your request, and if required, they may reach out to you for further information to identify the account. Please note that due to our privacy policy, we are unable to share specific details with you about what actions we may have taken on the identified user account.
Safe Consumption Review & Education System
To help encourage safe and responsible alcohol consumption, and as required by the RDA Code, we have a system in place to review and reach out to user accounts who we believe may be at risk of potentially unsafe alcohol consumption. If after review, an account is identified to be at risk of unsafe alcohol consumption, the users account may be placed under a temporary cooling period or, following a thorough review by our Safety Support team, permanently excluded from ordering alcohol.
