Meet Leslee, John, Mel, Mohan and Tahlia – 5 driver-partners from 5 cities across the country.
Meet Leslee M. – Hobart
“Driving with Uber allows me to live where I want to. We’ve rezoned our property as ‘Land for Wildlife’, and we hope to eventually repopulate our valley with wombats!”
Leslee lives on a property in a valley in Molesworth, Tasmania with her daughter and her dogs. She enjoys the peace, beauty, and tranquillity of having bushland on all sides. Leslee loves AFL, and watching her daughter play each weekend is her ‘Happy Place.’ She finds that a couple of hours accepting trips on the Uber app is the ideal way for her to relax.
Meet John Y. – Brisbane
“I moved to Australia as a refugee. Since then, I’ve founded a charity to feed war orphans and widows of war in South Sudan. I drive to bring change to my family and to others.”
John lives in Brisbane with his family. Three years ago, he founded a charity, Mowowfund, which provides food for the orphans of South Sudan, as well as unaccompanied minors and widows of war. The flexibility of earning with Uber makes it possible for him to visit South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia to work for Mowowfund, and when he returns he can do a bit more driving and save some more money.
Meet Mel C. – Melbourne
“My son and I had our lives changed because of Uber. With the earnings, I was able to complete my beauty therapy course and provide for both of us.”
Mel is a single mum whose long-term dream was to study beauty therapy and hairdressing. She began driving with Uber to pay for her beauty therapy course, and in early 2017, she and her son moved to Melbourne so she could pursue her passion for hairdressing.
Meet Mohan B. – Adelaide
“Giving is part of my culture and nature. Charity bike rides let me support causes I believe in. Uber gives me time for training, and it’s always amazing to have a good chat or laugh with a rider.”
Mohan is a bike riding enthusiast who drives Uber to raise money for his charity rides. To date, he has ridden over 59,000km and participated in 9 big charity rides. Driving with Uber gives him the flexibility to train whenever he wants to and also set time aside for family commitments.
Meet Tahlia K. – Sydney
“I’m a big people person. I volunteer with a youth group at the YMCA and help out my local netball club by coaching and umpiring.”
Tahlia is 22 years old and is driving to save to travel. She works as an electoral officer and a barmaid, and drives with Uber on the weekends.
To the driver-partners across Australia who keep their cities moving – thank you for being a part of our journey.
