We regret today’s interim ruling about uberPOP by the Frankfurt District Court.
We respect the German legal system. We will now wait to see the court’s reasoning and review it thoroughly. In our opinion, however, the interim ruling pronounced by the Court represents a fundamental infringement of our ability under European law to establish and provide a service; this is why we have lodged a complaint against Germany with the European Commission. In this regard, we also expect to file an appeal against today’s decision.
This decision also affects the thousands and thousands of riders who have come to rely on a safe, affordable way to get around town and the drivers using the Uber platform to reduce the costs of running their own vehicles.
Uber is being welcomed by riders and drivers throughout Germany. This interim ruling is limited to uberPOP and does not affect UberBLACK or uberTAXI. In addition, we are working on an alternative ridesharing service that we are developing specifically to fit the Court’s interpretation of existing regulations in Germany.
We will continue the dialogue we initiated with German policymakers and regulators with the goal of partnering with them to develop a forward-looking framework for passenger transportation, like the one being developed by Belgium that incorporates new mobility solutions into the transportation ecosystem.
