Sr. Manager, Strategic Finance - People & Places
This is a hybrid role and you must be located in, or willing to relocate to, New York or San Francisco, for the position.
About the Role
This senior finance role owns end-to-end headcount planning and facilities P&L management, building dynamic workforce models and real-estate financial analyses that align hiring roadmaps and workplace strategy with company-wide financial targets. The position serves as a key cross-functional partner.
What You’ll Do
Headcount & Workforce Finance
- Own end-to-end headcount planning, forecasting, and variance analysis across all business units, partnering with People and department leads.
- Build and maintain dynamic workforce models.
- Drive the annual and quarterly headcount budgeting cycle, ensuring alignment between hiring roadmaps and financial targets.
- Develop dashboards and reporting to give leadership real-time visibility into headcount trends, attrition costs, and talent investment ROI.
Facilities & Places Finance
- Manage the full P&L for the company's real-estate and workplace portfolio, including leases, build-outs, maintenance, and decommissions.
- Partner with Workplace/Facilities teams on site strategy: new office openings, consolidations, co-working arrangements, and hybrid workplace investments.
- Partner to build financial models for lease-vs-buy decisions, capital expenditure planning, and space-utilization optimization.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Strategic Leadership
- Serve as a trusted finance partner to leaders across the business, building strong relationships and providing proactive financial guidance on people and places decisions.
- Collaborate closely with Strategic Finance, Strategy & Planning, and Chiefs of Staff to ensure workforce and facilities plans are tightly integrated with company-wide financial planning, long-range modeling, and strategic priorities.
- Act as the primary finance business partner to the Head of Workplace, presenting insights and recommendations to executive leadership.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly business reviews with clear narratives on spend, forecast accuracy, and emerging risks or opportunities.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance analysts and managers supporting People and Places functions.
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements to scale planning capabilities.
Basic Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 4 years in FP&A or strategic finance roles focused on headcount/people costs and/or real estate and facilities.
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Track record of building and leading high-performing finance teams (2+ direct reports).
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 4 years in FP&A or strategic finance roles focused on headcount/people costs and/or real estate and facilities.
- Experience with corporate real-estate finance.
- Demonstrated experience owning a planning process at a company of meaningful scale (1,000+ employees).
- Strong understanding of compensation structures, benefits accounting, equity expense modeling, and workforce-related accruals.
- Proven ability to partner cross-functionally with senior stakeholders across strategy, operations, and executive leadership.
- Exceptional financial modeling skills; advanced proficiency in Excel/ Sheets and at least one enterprise planning tool
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial data into compelling narratives for non-finance stakeholders.
For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$195,000 per year - USD$217,000 per year.
For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$195,000 per year - USD$217,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
