Engineering Manager II, Network Engineering

About the Role

Team's mission: building and owning network libraries for remote process communication (RPC), network resilience features (e.g., timeout, retry, rate limiter, load shedding, circuit breaking, etc.), and innovations on performance and cost efficiency improvements in network libraries with multiple language supports (Go, Java, JavaScript, and Python).

You will have great opportunities to partner directly with core product and infrastructure teams to drive critical initiatives that can have profound, widespread impacts on Uber's business.

What You Will Do

  1. Manage and continuously build an innovation and engineering-oriented team that builds business-critical network libraries and ecosystems with multiple languages.
  2. Lead your team in designing, building, and operating Uber’s network libraries, working with other networking and general infrastructure teams in the US.
  3. Connect with product teams to clarify the customers’ demands and features provided by your systems.
  4. Communicate with multiple stakeholders for coordination, alignment, and joint execution.
  5. Create a diverse and inclusive culture for your team.
  6. Grow your team and people in AMS.

Basic Qualifications

  1. Managing experience on 15+ people teams.
  2. Experience in network infrastructure and platform, and direct experience on RPC is a big bonus.
  3. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  4. Strong result-driven and value-oriented execution leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Deep understanding of service mesh, RPC, edge and/or mobile network stacks.
  2. Experiences in deploying and operating large-scale distributed systems in production environments.
  3. Research background and/or experiences with innovative systems and products.
  4. A solid understanding of designing based on metrics to achieve business objectives.
  5. Domain expertise in the field of public cloud, on-prem hardware/data centers, computing, storage, networking, containers/orchestration, observability, big data, IT systems.
