Engineering Manager II - Uber Eats Promotional Messaging

We’re hiring an Engineering Manager II to lead the Eater Messaging team within Uber Eats.

This team owns both the user experience and platform for delivering targeted, high-leverage promotional messages in the Uber Eats app—driving measurable business outcomes like conversion, offer redemption, growth, and retention.

This is a high-impact role that blends platform thinking with user experience. We’re looking for a technically credible leader who can define strategy, grow a junior team, and execute in an ambiguous and fast-moving space.

What the Candidate Will Do:

  • Lead and grow the Eater Messaging engineering team, setting direction and ensuring high execution across both platform and user-facing initiatives.
  • Partner with Product, Data Science, and Design to define and deliver high-impact promotional messaging strategies that drive business outcomes like growth, conversion, and retention.
  • Guide technical design and architecture decisions; ensure the team builds scalable systems for targeting, delivery, and experimentation.
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers to help them grow technically and professionally, while fostering a strong, inclusive team culture.
  • Drive strategic investments and influence cross-functional stakeholders in a relatively underpowered but high-leverage product area.

Basic Qualifications :

  • 3+ years of engineering management experience, including hiring, mentorship, and team development.
  • Prior experience as a high-performing back-end or full-stack individual contributor, with the ability to read and review production-level code.
  • Experience working on targeting, personalization, notifications, or ads-related systems—preferably at a consumer-scale tech company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Led teams focused on ads targeting, notification delivery, marketing technology, offers, or promotional messaging at scale
  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategy and execution in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Strong product intuition, with experience collaborating closely with Product, Design, and Data Science on hybrid product/platform teams.
  • Proven track record of developing junior engineers and scaling early-stage or fast-growing teams.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.

For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$223,000 per year - USD$248,000 per year.
