We’re continuing our series called “Why I Ride”, which highlights our top riders in the community. We will be showcasing a handful of entrepreneurs, community leaders and some recognizable local faces who are sharing their stories of Uber around the island.
We recently had the chance to catch up with Daniel, the Digital Media Director of Hawaii Business Magazine and Hawaii Home and Remodeling, to find out why he rides! See below for his story:
Why do you ride?
I ride Uber because I’m accustomed to organizing my life through my iPhone and love the convenience of being able to request an Uber using a mobile device. With my work as a journalist there are a lot of events I attend where I’m a having a few drinks, so riding in an Uber is a lot more responsible and fun compared to a DUI.
What makes you feel safe about riding with Uber?
I feel safe riding in an Uber because it’s an international brand with a great reputation when it comes to service and convenience. I enjoy talking with the drivers and find that they’re much friendlier than cab drivers, which makes my ride free of worry about a weirdo behind the wheel.
What occasions do you use Uber?
I use Uber to go to events where I know I’ll be drinking, and to concerts.
What is your favorite feature in the app?
My favorite feature in the app is being able to see how close my driver is to picking me up so I can maximize my time.
When did you first download the Uber app?
I first signed up for Uber when my wife mentioned that if I signed up I could get a free ride. It was a win-win all around.
What is your favorite Uber option (product) and why?
My favorite Uber option is uberX although I hope that there will be a time when I can say that the Uber helicopter will be my preferred method of travel!
What is your favorite place to Uber to?
My favorite place to Uber to is The Republik because the parking there is very challenging and if I’m going to see some live music then there is a good chance I’ll be drinking so it’s nice not to worry about about driving.

During the Ride
- Never get lost. You can see the route on the map in the app.
- Share your ETA and location. You can easily share your ride details, including the specific route and estimated time of arrival, with friends or family for extra peace of mind.
After the Ride
- Feedback and ratings after every trip. After every ride, you and your drivers are asked to rate each other and provide feedback.
- 24/7 Support. If something happens in a car, our customer support team is ready to respond to any issues 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Rapid Response. We have a dedicated Incident Response Team to answer any more urgent issues.
