What is Errands by the hour?

December 15, 2022 / New York
Requesters sometimes need drivers to help with an extra task beyond just delivering items with Uber Connect, such as:
-Returning an online purchase by having a driver drop off a package at a shipping service
-Have a driver pick up a prepaid item, like flowers or cookies
-Have a driver drop something off, like library books or dry cleaning

With Errands by the hour, you earn for your time driving and in-store.

How does Errands by the hour work?

Requesters can book Errands by the hour trips for a minimum of 1 hour and a maximum of 4 hours. You’ll see “Errands by the hour” in the offer card for the trip, along with the number of hours the customer reserved. You’ll be paid for the total time reserved, even if you finish early. And if the actual trip exceeds the time and/or distance requested, you’ll earn for each extra minute or mile.

You’ll see “Errands by the hour” in the offer card for the trip, along with the number of hours the requester booked. Upon accepting the trip, you can communicate with the requester using in-app chat or phone call to get details about the Errands. Requesters can select multiple stops and update them during the trip. You’ll be notified in-app so you’re always up-to-date.

The requester must prepay for any item that they are requesting to be picked up. Do not make any payments or purchases, including cash transactions.

Errands by the hour is an Uber Connect product and is only to be used for  item deliveries that are permitted in the Uber Connect Terms and Conditions. This option is meant to be used for the pick-up or drop-off of items, including prepaid items that require entering a business to pick-up or drop-off. Only item delivery tasks are permitted. Other types of Errands are not permitted.

For more information, see the list of prohibited items and deliveries below.

What types of items and packages are not permitted to be delivered using Errands by the hour?

Similar to Uber Connect, the items listed here are prohibited on Errands by the hour.

What can I deliver in an Errand?

You can deliver packages that:

– Don’t contain any prohibited items (see list above).
– Have a per-trip combined maximum weight of 30 pounds and a combined maximum value of 100 USD.
– Fit comfortably in the trunk of your vehicle.
– Are closed, securely sealed, and prepaid.

Deliveries made using Errands by the hour must comply with all laws and regulations and Uber’s policies.

Sending or delivering any illegal, unsafe, or other prohibited items (linked above) is strictly prohibited, and doing so may result in the permanent deactivation of your account.

Note: Remember that you can reach out to the requester via chat or phone call from the app.

How do I sign up?

To deliver packages, you must sign up via the email you received or from Preferences in the Driver app, and accept the terms in the Driver app.

This opportunity is currently only available to those who received the invitation because Errands by the hour is launching in select cities first. We’ll let you know if it becomes available to other drivers.

What happens if the Errands take longer than the time the requester booked?

If the trip exceeds the time and/or distance initially booked by the requester, you will be paid for each additional minute or mile required to complete the errands. You can find the per-minute and per-mile rates in the “Net Fares Portal” within the Earnings Hub.

Remember to contact the requester if the Errands are taking longer than expected.
