Uber Freight partners with Feeding America, supports Move What Matters campaign with over $700,000

Over the past few months, Uber Freight has facilitated more than 30,000 relief loads for shippers, ensuring that essential goods like food, water, and medical supplies get where they need to go on time. But across the logistics industry, and the world, there’s a desire to do more. 

We’ve been overwhelmed by interest from our customers and supply chain partners in providing relief for communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of the businesses we work with are uniquely positioned to donate products but need logistics support to get those essentials into the hands of hospitals and food banks on the front lines. 

As part of Uber’s Move What Matters campaign to donate 10 million free rides and food deliveries to those who need it most, Uber Freight has committed more than $700,000 to cover the costs of moving donated products from our customers to organizations like Food for Good, Second Harvest, and the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) that are directly serving our communities. A core part of this work supports our long-time partnership with Feeding America, coordinating shipments to their national network of food pantries and food banks at a crucial time.

Uber has been a wonderful partner to us since late last year, committing to help increase food access to underserved communities, get more donations to food banks, and raise awareness of the issue of hunger. With this generous initiative from Uber Freight, we’re looking forward to unlocking more donations from shippers and further streamlining the logistics of getting food from suppliers to food banks, and on to programs that nourish communities in need.

Since introducing this initiative, we’ve already brokered dozens of donated loads and expect to support hundreds more in the coming months. In April, we coordinated 4 loads of personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks, face shields, and swabs from Salesforce to UCSF, and we’ll continue to cover shipping costs and arrange transport for partners across North America that are rerouting food and medical supplies to those who need it most. To date, we’ve also worked to support:

  • The PepsiCo Foundation’s Food for Good program, in their commitment to deliver the equivalent of over 1 million meals to the Toronto area
  • Suppliers in the iTradeMarketplace that are donating surplus produce and vital perishables to local Feeding America food banks
  • Second Harvest in delivering nearly 1 million pounds of potatoes to communities in need in rural Ontario
  • FarmLink in shipping 20 loads of rescued produce from farms to food banks across the US

Uber Freight is committed to helping our partners serve their customers and communities every day, through periods of stability and crisis alike. Their generosity is humbling and has illuminated just how crucial freight transportation is to redistribute donated goods where they’re needed most. We’ll continue to leverage our logistics strength to deliver meaningful impact, whether moving food to food banks or grocery shelves.
