Our driver partners inspire us every day, but when we ask what inspires them, the most frequent answer we get is: “my kids.” That’s why we partnered with LeagueSide to support 4 local youth sports teams in Philadelphia.

According to LeagueSide, kids who are physically active achieve 40% higher test scores and have an 11% higher graduation rate than non-athletes. With travel, equipment, and league fees, however, the financial cost of playing a sport can be high, forcing some kids to drop out.

We wanted to help address this problem in our greater Philadelphia community, so we worked with LeagueSide to sponsor 4 local youth teams: the Upper Darby Fútbol Club, the Greater 69th Street Wildcats, Lansdowne Boys and Girls Club Soccer, and Llanerch Hills Baseball & Softball leagues. To help make sure our partners’ families could all participate, we also set up a registration discount for the kids of Uber drivers.

On November 20, in the spirit of giving thanks during the holidays, we held a ‘Coach of the Year Award’ event at Dave & Buster’s in Philadelphia to thank the league coaches for their hard work, selflessness, and dedication to their teams. There was also plenty of fun to be had, as the young athletes, their families, and coaches played arcade games with LeagueSide and Uber staff.

Making a difference in our communities and supporting our driver partners is what drives us, and we’re proud to be out on the field with them and their families in Philadelphia.
