This Father’s Day, take dear old dad on a Raleigh adventure instead of buying him a token gift. Here are 5 great things to do in Raleigh with your dad this Father’s Day.

What to do on Father’s Day in Raleigh

1. Browse the vinyl at Sorry State Records

If your dad loves music, what could be more appealing to him than browsing through a record store with you? Let him regale you with stories of concerts and old girlfriends as memories flood back while he flips through the wares at Sorry State Records. Featuring old ‘zines, cassette tapes, posters, and row upon row of vinyl, this cool record store will make your dad nostalgic for those idyllic days before you came along.

2. Experience the Man Expo

Even if you’re a daughter, you’ll have loads of fun bonding with your pop at The Man Expo, an epic event that speaks to everything and anything a man’s heart could possibly desire. Exhibits feature everything from man caves to microbrews and grooming gadgets to guns. No matter what your dad is into, he’ll find something of interest here, and you’ll get enough gift ideas to last the next 3 Christmases.

1025 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raleigh, NC 17607

3. Enjoy fine dining at Vinnie’s Steak House and Tavern

Vinnie’s is a Raleigh institution, inviting hungry people in for a steak since 1987. The elegant, wood-paneled dining room is dotted with round, linen-covered tables surrounded by comfy leather chairs. An eye-catching display wine cellar in the dining room features wines from all over the world, and the covered patio offers al fresco dining. Start with the Pecan-Crusted Sea Scallops, and try the tangy, smoky French Onion Soup before digging into a famous Vinnie’s steak.

Where: 7440 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615

4. Dance to the Deftones at Red Hat Amphitheater

The Deftones’ experimental rock sound has distinct metal roots, and if your dad is into that kind of thing, make a date to see this prolific band that’s been rocking faces off since 1988. Opening the show at Red Hat Amphitheater is Rise Against, the perfect answer to your melodic-hardcore listening needs. After the show, ramble around downtown and get up to some father-child mischief. Mom never has to know.

5. Take him out to the ballgame

Buy your dad some peanuts and Cracker Jack to snack on while you bond over the showdown between the Carolina Mudcats and the Potomac Nationals in the last day of a 4-game series. Start the day with lunch at the Cattails Restaurant atop the stadium. The elegant dining room overlooks the field through a long wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, and the menu features all manner of fine-dining staples, including burgers and steaks.
