For us, the holidays are about celebrating the season with family, which is just what we did during a party for our Connecticut driver-partners—and their families—at the Fairfield Theatre Company on December 20. In addition to having some holiday fun, we also awarded $1,500 to the Bridgeport Animal Rescue Crew (BARC) as part of our new community outreach effort, Project Jumpstart. In this new program, drivers can submit applications nominating their most beloved local organizations for funding from Uber. Each quarter, we’ll review applications and donate $1,500 to a cause our Connecticut driver-partners care about.

“Uber is proud to introduce Project Jumpstart in Connecticut,” said Matt Powers, General Manager for Uber in Connecticut. “This award will do more than just help BARC’s work to rescue and relocate dogs in need of homes. It reminds our driver-partners that Uber is committed to supporting the causes they care about.” BARC was nominated by veteran driver-partner Louis Pagliuco, who has completed over 3,000 Uber rides and also serves as a local volunteer firefighter and EMT. “I’m very gracious that my cause was selected by Uber to kick off this initiative,” said Pagliuco. “BARC goes to the full extreme to not only rescue dogs, but ensure they have safe homes with loving owners to move into. It was my Christmas wish to help them out some way, and Uber’s donation has made that wish come true.” There was also plenty of holiday fun to be had, as driver-partners and their families built and decorated gingerbread houses and goofed around in our photo booth. Later in the evening, everyone enjoyed a drumline performance by Hartford’s Proud Drill, Drum, and Dance Corp, a local rhythm-and-movement youth group whose mission is to help kids build artistic, emotional, academic, and social skills in a violence-free environment. It was a great way to close out 2016 with some of our favorite people. Happy Holidays, Connecticut! To see the complete photo gallery from the event, click here.
