We’re thrilled to announce that Governor Pat McCrory just signed a bill into law that creates a permanent home for ridesharing in North Carolina and enables continued access to the Uber you know and love.
The bill includes:
- A uniform statewide framework regulating ridesharing across North Carolina
- Mandatory county, federal, and multi-state background checks for driver-partners
- $1.5M primary insurance coverage on every trip
Safety
Since we launched ridesharing in North Carolina, Uber has background checked all driver-partners and provided $1.5M of insurance on every trip. This legislation codifies these requirements, affirming the safety standards we’ve had in place since the beginning, while encouraging innovation and the development of new technologies.
Reliability
Using our platform, driver-partners have completed over 2M trips—and of those trips, 85% had a driver-partner arrive within 10 minutes. Having a reliable ride available—especially during times when they are needed most—can provide people with a safe alternative to drinking and driving. In North Carolina we actually see a spike in Uber ridership exactly when bars close.
Commitment to North Carolina
Uber is proud to operate in 15 markets across the state of North Carolina, bringing residents and visitors safe, affordable, and reliable rides. The Uber platform has created 8K job opportunities across the state and put over $20M into the hands of North Carolina residents (over $1M into the hands of partners that are service members, veterans, and military spouses.)
We’d like to take a moment to thank you for your support. We are so proud to be in North Carolina and excited to continue meeting the incredible demand for uberX across the state.
Thank you, North Carolina.
