With more than 2 million Uber trips completed in Electric Vehicles (EV) in the United States and Canada in 2017, Uber is committed to facilitating more sustainable transportation in Sacramento and other cities. By working together with driver-partners, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Plug In America and other local experts on an exciting pilot program, we’re helping to electrify more of the miles you travel.
Now, whenever riders are matched with a driver-partner in an EV in Sacramento, they will be notified in-app that they’re riding in an EV. Additionally, we’ve listened to driver-partners and heard their concerns about the unique limitations that driving an EV has with ridesharing and are working on specific product improvements for driver-partners with EVs.
Partnering with SMUD and Plug In America to make an impact in San Francisco
Sacramento Municipal Utility District
SMUD is the nation’s sixth largest publicly-owned utility and a national leader on innovative energy and renewable programs. SMUD and Uber are partnering in Sacramento to provide free charging for driver-partner’s zero-emission vehicles. The EV Champions Program will help to bring shared electric mobility to SMUD customers and the Sacramento community at the tap of a button.
For more information on the benefits of driving an EV and financial programs available to EV drivers, visit SMUD’s website.
Plug In America
Plug In America’s mission is to drive change to accelerate the shift to plug-in vehicles powered by clean, affordable, domestic electricity. Uber is thrilled to be working with Plug In America to help support their goals of reducing our nation’s dependence on petroleum, improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Sacramento residents are eligible for many benefits as electric vehicle owners. To learn more about owning an EV and to see what’s available, visit the PlugStar site by Plug In America.
Moving forward with more sustainable transportation in mind
We hope that these efforts will help raise awareness about the important role EVs and other efforts can play in developing sustainable transportation in Sacramento.
Learn more about Uber’s additional commitments to working towards a more sustainable transportation by filling empty seats, partnering with transit agencies, and providing more in-app access to active options for transportation like Express POOL and Uber Bike provided by JUMP.
