EDUCATION & ARTS
Driver-Partner: Yusry
Make-A-Wish Singapore is part of a global organisation with the mission of granting the wishes of over 415,000 children (with life-threatening medical condition).
Moved by one of Uber’s past campaigns with Make-A-Wish Singapore, Mr Yusry now aims to help the foundation in their efforts to aid children with life-threatening conditions.
Driver-Partner: Kee Zi Yun
Children’s Cancer Foundation is a non-profit organisation with a mission to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and their families and children impacted by cancer through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being.
Ms Kee, a volunteer at Children’s Cancer Foundation, believes that education remains important, no matter the patients’ circumstances. She hopes to be able to work hand-in-hand with CCF in improving these children’s lives by buying books, stationery, and learning materials to help them continue learning.
Driver-Partner: August Nathanael
Jamiyah Children’s Home is a home for underprivileged and less fortunate children.
“Poverty affects every aspect of a child’s life. It limits their opportunities, puts their health at risk, and this is something that should be tackled,” says Mr Nathanael. He hopes to raise funds for Jamiyah Children’s Home, so that the organisation’s members will be able to go to school and focus on their futures instead of worrying about much else.
Driver-Partner: Lee Boon Kiat
Metta School offers special education to children with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) and to children who also have Autism (ASD), aged between 6 and 21 years.
“Their eagerness to learn really moved me.” says Mr Boon Kiat. As a volunteer for the school himself, Mr. Boon Kiat has witnessed firsthand the potential and capabilities of these students. He hopes to use the money to enhance their vocational training so that they can further grow as individuals.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
Driver-Partner: Sam Lim
The Singapore Association for the Deaf aims to assist the deaf to achieve a better quality of life and to enable them to integrate and contribute to society.
Mr Lim works for a company whose clients include the Singapore Association for the Deaf. He’s gotten to befriend a lot of the staff and volunteers, and hopes to raise funds through Drivers for Change to show appreciation, buy learning materials, and host community support days for them.
Driver-Partner: Barry Choo
Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped, Founded in 1951, it is the national voluntary welfare organization for the visually impaired.
Mr Choo takes part in activities, games, and competitions hosted by Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped annually. After volunteering for 6 years, Mr Choo hopes to raise funds to help with mobility for SAVH’s members, as well as renovations for their facilities.
Driver-Partner: Ang Li Wei
Willing Hearts is wholly run by volunteers. It operates a soup kitchen that prepares, cooks and distributes about 5,000 daily meals to over 40 locations island wide, 365 days a year.
“Being able to have three meals a day is something I’m always grateful for,” says Ms Ang, a volunteer at Willing Hearts, “People should not be worrying about this.” Ms Ang hopes to raise funds to buy ingredients, utensils, and daily needs for the underprivileged.
Driver-Partner: Mizoguchi Dennis
The Salvation Army, Singapore has been around since 1935 and they are committed to serving the underprivileged in the community without discrimination.
Mr Mizoguchi volunteers for The Salvation Army, which helps to lighten the burden of families with troubled teenagers by offering counseling. The money he hopes to raise will help subsidize and provide better shelter for those counseled and in need.
HEALTH & PUBLIC SAFETY
Driver-Partner: Chua Choon Bok
Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home provides affordable, professional and personalized elder care services for the needy and sick in Singapore regardless of race, language or religion.
Moved by the home’s dedicated staff and volunteers, Mr Chua now sends food twice a month to Lee Ah Mooi Old Age Home. This charity organization relies purely on funding from public donations, and he plans on using the money from Uber to fund medical equipment, tools, as well as facility upgrades.
Driver-Partner: Marhani Binte Minhaj
Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Singapore (SPCA) is not a government agency. They rely on donations from their supporters to prevent cruelty to animals and birds and to promote kindness to animals and birds.
“Animals are often defenseless and neglected,” says Ms Marhani, a pet owner, lover of cats, and volunteer at Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), “and I do believe that living things should be treated fairly and equally.” The money she hopes to raise would go into homestay and medical treatments for injured animals.
