Cancellations can be frustrating for our riders and driver partners alike. The cancellation fee is in place to ensure that drivers are fairly compensated for their time when committing to a trip.
In general, as long as riders cancel within 5 minutes of the initial request they won’t be charged a fee. However, when a rider cancels after 5 minutes on a cash trip, the cancellation fee will automatically be charged to the rider’s next trip.
The rider will receive this notification to ensure they are aware that the fee will be added to their next trip:
After completing the next trip, the total fare that the rider will pay will include the current fare as well as the previous trip’s cancellation fee. The rider will receive two receipts for each of these payments which include:
- Current trip fare
- Previous trip’s cancellation fee
If a rider has cancelled multiple cash trips consecutively, the cancellation fee for the multiple trips will accumulate as arrears – riders are then expected to clear these arrears using an alternate payment method like bank card or through Paga. Once this payment is clear, riders can book their Uber rides as usual.
In case there is a situation where riders feel that they were charged unfairly, they can get in touch with us through support@uber.com as we will be happy to take a look. We will refund the fee in the form of Uber credits, which can be used to pay for future trips. The Uber credits will reflect on the account immediately.
