Unlocking places for all
Transportation gives us a sense of independence, which is why uberASSIST has trained driver-partners to help riders with mobility challenges. This ride option is designed to provide additional assistance for members of the community with different accessibility needs, including the elderly or those who may just feel more comfortable with an extra hand when getting from A to B. It is a service which helps unlock the city for all.
‘Unstoppable Riders’ by Isabelle Lim
We’re proud to have collaborated with photographer Isabelle Lim to capture the journeys of these ‘Unstoppable Riders’. Isabelle understands the obstacles people with disabilities face when travelling to places important to them. That’s why capturing these journeys is a meaningful project for her, as “it touches on independence, dreams and aspirations of individuals”.
Singapore’s Paralympic swimmer is the proud winner of over 200 swimming accolades. For Theresa, “being in the water makes me feel free and lets me move about unhindered”. For over a decade, Theresa has travelled to and from the pool to train every day. Not only is this the place where she prepares to be a champion, it’s her second home.
Maria doesn’t let her age or physical challenges get in the way of enjoying life. Ever since she discovered a wheelchair dance group, she’s been attending its weekly rehearsals. All week, she looks forward to her dance class. It’s a place where she can keep her mind and body active, and her heart young.
Thanks to our driver-partners Ryan and August for going the extra mile to help us with this project.
“To me, if you’re going to do a job, do it to the best of your abilities. If this involves helping people along the way, that makes your job even better."
"I've always been trying to help people with physical challenges to travel around. I'm glad uberASSIST provided me with the training to do it."
