The ride options on this page are a sample of Uber’s products, and some might not be available where you use the Uber app. If you check your city’s web page or look in the app, you’ll see what rides you can request.

How to ride with Taxi
1. Request
Open the app and enter your destination in the “Where to?” box. Once you confirm that your pickup and destination addresses are correct, select Taxi.
After you’ve been matched with a driver, you’ll see their vehicle details and can track their arrival on the map.
2. Ride
Check that the vehicle details match what you see in the app before getting in the vehicle.
Your driver has your destination and directions for the fastest way to get there, but you can always request a specific route.
3. Hop out
You’ll be automatically charged through your payment method on file, so you can exit the vehicle as soon as you arrive.
Remember to rate your driver to help keep Uber safe and enjoyable for everyone. You can also consider tipping your driver.

Requesting Taxi using Uber in New York City
Once you’re matched with a taxi driver, you won’t be able to change your dropoff destination.
You’ll pay the price shown up front and any applicable taxes, fees, surcharges, and tolls. The amount presented will not be adjusted at the end of the trip if the actual route has fees that differ from the estimated route or the length, duration, or route of the trip changes. However, the price may be adjusted at the end of the trip if the actual route has surcharges or tolls that differ from the estimated route.
All drivers licensed by the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission (TLC) undergo background checks conducted by TLC. Taxi drivers, however, do not undergo additional background checks that are conducted on for-hire vehicle drivers performing trips on the Uber platform. On these rides, certain Uber safety features will not be available, including RideCheck, Verify Your Ride, and Share Trip.
Uber will share some of your information, including your contact details and pickup and dropoff locations, with the taxi driver and the driver’s e-hail app provider to help complete your ride. TLC requires taxis to share the real-time location of taxis with TLC, which means your trip location points will be shared in real time with TLC during your trip.
A photo of your taxi driver may not be available in the Uber app. Still, you can confirm you’re getting into the correct vehicle by verifying the vehicle license plate in-app with the license plate on the taxi. Taxi drivers are also required to display their TLC license inside the taxi, and you’ll be able to match the driver's name in the Uber app with their name on the TLC license in the vehicle.
*The upfront price you’re shown may change if you add stops, update your destination, make significant changes to the route or duration of the trip, or pass through a toll that was not factored into your upfront price. In addition, you may incur wait-time fees for the time you take to get to the car at the pickup or fees for time spent at an on-trip stop.
