From improving the screening process for drivers to giving you peace of mind in the car, we’re introducing new safety features to help you feel protected and connected with every ride.
We’re adding annual screening and history checks for every driver.
Since 2009, millions of drivers have undergone driving record and background screenings in order to drive with Uber. To ensure drivers continue to meet our standards, we’re improving our screening process. Starting soon we will be proactively rerunning criminal and driver history checks every year, for every driver.
Reminders to share your trip details with loved ones.
You can now designate up to five family members and friends as Trusted Contacts and set up reminders to share your trip details with them whenever you ride, so they can see you on the map and know when you’ve arrived.
Easily access safety features during your ride.
During every ride, you can now access important safety tools and tips from one place located on the map. You can also learn about what we’re doing to help keep you safe while riding with Uber, including driver screening processes, insurance protection, and community guidelines.
Emergency assistance is now in the app.
If there’s ever an urgent situation during the ride, you can now call 911 directly from the Uber app and share your location and trip details with authorities. Additionally, we’re teaming up with RapidSOS to pilot automatic location sharing with 911 in several US cities.
When you ride with Uber, your trips are covered.
Whether you're in the back seat or behind the wheel, feeling safe matters. That's why Uber maintains automobile liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance for every ride. This includes protections for you, additional riders, pedestrians, and other people on the road.
Get a better look at your driver’s info.
We’ve updated the Uber app to make it easier to make sure you’re getting into the right car. Always verify your ride with Uber by checking that the driver name, car, and license plate matches what you see in the app.
