We're introducing pickup codes at participating airports to help eligible drivers spend less time waiting for airport trips, connect with riders more easily, and get back on the road faster.

With this new airport pickup process, eligible drivers are matched with riders using a unique 6-digit pickup code instead of receiving a standard airport trip request.

As pickup codes roll out to more airports, availability and eligibility will vary by airport and product type.

A new way to get airport trips

Pickup codes are a new way to receive airport pickups.

Instead of waiting in the standard airport queue, eligible drivers may receive an alert in the Driver app inviting them to head to a dedicated pickup line. Riders receive a unique 6-digit pickup code and share it with the next available driver. This code is different from the 4-digit PIN riders may use during non-airport pickups. Once you enter the rider's pickup code in the Driver app, the match is confirmed.

This streamlined pickup process helps reduce time spent waiting for your next trip and makes it easier to connect with a rider at the pickup area, so you can get on your way sooner.

Here's how it works
Uber driver app offers a pickup at Premier Line, with options to accept or decline the opportunity.

When pickup codes are available and you're eligible:

  1. Receive a pickup code alert in the Driver app.
  2. Choose whether to head to the dedicated pickup code line or stay in the waiting lot for a Trip Radar request.
  3. If you choose to go to the dedicated pickup code line, follow your Driver app to the line and wait for the next rider.
  4. Ask the rider for their 6-digit pickup code before they enter your vehicle or any luggage is placed inside.
  5. Enter the rider's 6-digit pickup code in the Driver app.
  6. Once the match is confirmed, you can invite the rider to enter your vehicle and any luggage can be loaded.
  7. View your trip details in the Driver app and begin the trip.
What to expect

Because riders and drivers are matched in the dedicated pickup code line using a pickup code:

  • Trip details are shown after the match is confirmed.
  • Fare information is available after the trip has been completed.

Seeing the fare before the trip starts

Tap the Waybill link in Trip Guide to see the trip fare and destination. In a future update, these details will be available directly in Trip Guide.

Two phone screens show a ride app's trip guide and detailed waybill with trip and passenger information.

Why use pickup codes

Spend less time waiting

Get matched to your next eligible trip faster through the dedicated pickup line.

Make the most of your time at the airport

Get trips to select popular areas through the dedicated pickup line. If you receive a short ride, you'll be placed in a priority queue when you return to the airport.

Choose what works for you

When you receive a pickup code alert, it's your choice whether to head to the dedicated pickup line or stay in the airport waiting lot for another trip request. Your choice won't impact your acceptance rate.

Where pickup codes are available

Pickup codes are rolling out gradually at participating airports.

To see if pickup codes are available where you drive:

  • Check the Driver app when you're at the airport.
  • If pickup codes are available and you're eligible, you may receive an alert inviting you to head to the dedicated pickup line.
  • Availability and eligibility vary by airport and product type.

We'll also notify you when pickup codes become available at airports where you're eligible to drive. Keep an eye on your Driver app for updates as pickup codes expand to more airports.
