That’s why we’re launching the Green Future program, to provide access to resources valued at $800 million to help hundreds of thousands of drivers like you transition to battery electric vehicles (EVs) by 2025.

Zero Emissions incentive
By signing up for the incentive, drivers with battery EVs can make an extra $1¹ on every Uber trip, up to $4,000 annually, until September 30, 2021. Terms and conditions apply.
Note: In California, drivers with EVs can enjoy a 5-percentage-point reduction² on their service fee on every Uber trip (for savings of up to $4,000 annually).
Uber Green
We’re launching Uber Green, a low-emission ride option that connects riders with drivers using hybrid and fully electric vehicles. Eligible drivers of low-emission vehicles automatically get $0.50 extra directly from riders in each Uber Green trip.
Note: Uber Green is available in certain cities only. In those cities, service will be available from 6am to 9pm. Availability may be additionally limited outside of downtown areas to start.

- What is the Zero Emissions incentive?
Drivers of fully electric vehicles are eligible for the Zero Emissions incentive, which lets them earn an extra $1 on every Uber trip (up to $4,000 annually).¹
The Zero Emissions incentive program will be valid from 4am local time on September 21, 2020, until 3:59am local time on September 20, 2021, in the US and Canada. Eligible drivers can earn a maximum of $4,000 in 12 months.
In California, drivers with EVs can enjoy a 5-percentage-point reduction on their service fee on every Uber trip (for savings of up to $4,000 annually).² For example, if your service fee is 25%, you'll have a discounted service fee of 20%. The service fee reduction is subject to change on a monthly basis. The service fee may be reduced by discounts earned, but the service fee will never be less than 1%. Once a driver has reached $4,000 per year in service fee savings, the service fee will revert to normal. Also, drivers who opt in to the Zero Emissions incentive will not be eligible for Drive Pass. Signing up for the Zero Emissions incentive will make you ineligible for other driver promotions.
- What are the eligibility criteria?
Drivers with battery electric vehicles (EVs) or other zero-emission vehicles are eligible for this incentive in the US and Canada.³ Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are not eligible.
At least 90% of all trips need to be completed with the eligible vehicle (if you have multiple vehicles).
The offer applies to completed trips on UberX, UberXL, Uber Comfort, Uber Select, Uber Assist, Uber WAV, and Uber Pool trips if they’re available in your region. The promotion also applies to Uber Eats deliveries, except in California.
- How do I opt in?
Once you add an eligible vehicle to your account, you’ll receive an email from Uber with a link to opt in. The Zero Emissions incentive program will be valid from 4am local time on September 21, 2020, until 3:59am local time on September 20, 2021. Drivers can opt in at any time during this period. Eligible drivers who opt in by 11:59pm local time on September 14, 2020, will start receiving the offer at 4am local time on September 21, 2020.
After September 14, eligible drivers who opt in before 11:59pm local time on a Monday will start receiving the offer at 4am the following Monday.
- Will I still be eligible to receive the regular weekly incentives (such as Boost and Quest)?
No. By signing up for the Zero Emissions incentive, you won’t be eligible for other promotions. You can always switch back to general incentives by writing to Support. Your incentives will be updated within a week.
- What are the eligibility criteria?
To receive Uber Green trip requests, you need to drive a hybrid or electric vehicle (EV).
All EVs and hybrids must still meet Uber’s vehicle requirements. For example, the Toyota Mirai has only 4 seat belts, so it’s not eligible for Uber Green.
- Do I need to opt in?
No. If your car is eligible and Uber Green is in your city, you’re automatically opted in to Uber Green.
- How do I opt out?
If your vehicle is eligible but you’d like to opt out of receiving Uber Green trips, you may do so in the Trip Planner section of the Driver app, under Driver Preferences.
- Will I make more money?
On average, you’ll make the same amount or more than on UberX, and you will continue to receive regular UberX trip requests as well as Uber Green trip requests.
Eligible drivers get $0.50 extra directly from each Uber Green trip. For the same route and similar times, you’ll make more than on UberX. But it’s possible that you have to drive longer to get to your passenger. In these cases, the $0.50 will ensure that you’re not making less than with UberX.
Riders will pay a $1 fee on each Uber Green trip; half will go directly to the driver of that trip, and the other half will go toward the Green Future program. This program will help hundreds of thousands of drivers transition to battery electric vehicles by 2025.
