In-app tips on Uber

Tipping is an easy way to say thanks. Riders and Uber Eats customers have the option to tip right directly from the app after each trip or delivery.

To ensure a smooth, uninterrupted ride, you can tip drivers up to 30 days after your trip at a time when it’s convenient for you.

Tips go directly to drivers; Uber doesn’t charge service fees on tips.

Frequently asked questions

  • You are free to tip, and Uber driver-partners and Uber Eats delivery people are free to accept a tip at any time.

  • The easiest way to tip your Uber driver-partner or Uber Eats delivery person is through the app. At the end of your trip, you’ll be prompted to rate your driver-partner or delivery person. Once you provide a rating, you’ll be given the option to add a tip. You are free to tip and drivers and delivery people are free to accept tips at any time. Giving cash directly to your driver-partner or delivery person is never an option.

    Where available, you may also tip through the app, on riders.uber.com and from your emailed trip receipt.

  • In-app tipping is currently only available in some locations. You may need to update your app to ensure that you have the latest version. Additionally, some drivers may opt to not accept tips through the app. You can always tip your driver in cash if you’d like.

  • You can tip your driver once your trip is complete. Tips are neither expected nor required. After a trip has ended, you have 30 days to add a tip in the app, on riders.uber.com, or from your emailed trip receipt.

  • You can tip your delivery person once your delivery is complete. Tips are not required. After a delivery has ended, you’ve 7 days to add a tip in the app.

  • After a trip has ended, you’ve 30 days to add a tip in the app, on riders.uber.com, or from your emailed trip receipt.

  • Uber takes zero fees on tips.

  • The rider who originally requested the trip will be able to select the tip amount for a trip. If a tip is added by the original requester, it wont be split with the other passengers.

  • Before you provide a tip in the app you must first rate your driver-partner or Uber Eats delivery person. If you tip directly from the receipt, you will not be prompted to tip.

  • Credits and gift cards will all work for tips. However, promotions cannot be used to tip your driver.
