To pick-up and drop-off riders at the airport, Christchurch Airport requires that you register to Christchurch Airport and agree to the Consent Form. Once your registration has been processed, you’ll receive a confirmation via the Uber app.
If you have registered with Christchurch Airport you can pick-up riders there. To receive trip requests, make your way to the designated waiting area at the rear of the Orchard Road Car Park where you can wait free for 30 minutes. You will be placed in a virtual queue, which means that driver-partners who have been waiting the longest will get requests first. You will only receive trip requests when you are inside the waiting area.
Registered Uber driver-partners are permitted to pick-up riders from the ‘Ride Share Pick-up Zone’, located behind the purple Express Park (car parking building).
If you have registered with Christchurch Airport you can drop-off riders in The Loop public drop-off and pick-up lane area under the Express Park (car park building).
Christchurch Airport requires that all driver-partners picking up or dropping off riders to pay a $5.50 fee. This is in line with the fee charged by Christchurch Airport to other small passenger services providing pick-ups and drop-offs. The fee will be automatically added to your rider’s fare for any trips that involve pickups or drop-offs at Christchurch Airport, so you will not be out of pocket. Collection of this fee from driver-partners on behalf of Christchurch Airport, and payment to Christchurch Airport, will be handled by Uber; you will not be required to pay anything directly to the Airport.
If you are a GST-registered driver-partner, you should be able to claim the GST component of the per-trip airport fee. To understand more about airport fees and how they should be reflected in your tax return, you can contact your tax advisor, or Woohoo, a company that offers discounted tax services to partners as part of the Momentum Rewards program.
To place yourself in the airport queue, head to the area surrounding Christchurch Airport and open the Uber app. Once you are in the virtual queue, you will see a number range at the top of your screen indicating where you are in the queue.
To receive trip requests you must be waiting inside the designated waiting area at the airport in the Orchard Road Car Park (at the rear of the car park). You can wait here free for 30 minutes. Driver-partners are responsible for parking costs if time in the car park exceeds 30 minutes. If you drive out of the waiting area you will remain in the airport virtual queue, however you won’t receive a trip request until you return to the Orchard Road Car Park. Trips will be received by driver-partners on a first in, first out basis, meaning driver-partners who have been waiting the longest get requests first.
Once you are at the front of the queue, you will receive the next available trip request. In order to meet your rider, drive towards the airport along Durey Road following the directions in your Driver app. Next, turn left before the entrance to the purple Express Park (car park building) and enter the rideshare pick-up zone. Once parked, keep an eye out for your rider.
Once your rider is in your car, you can begin the trip just as you normally would. To exit the airport, continue down Durey Road and make a left turn onto Perimeter Road.
You do not lose your place in the queue if your rider cancels. You will lose your place in the queue if you do any of the following:
Shortly after arriving in the area surrounding the airport, your position in the queue will appear (shown in your driver app as a numerical range). It’s important to remember that your position in the queue won’t always mean the same wait time; for example, position 15 can sometimes wait 30 minutes and other times only 5 minutes.
To ensure that traffic at the terminal is kept to a minimum and you are complying with the Christchurch Airport Operating Rules, pick-ups by driver-partners must only occur at the designated pick-up area. If the rider is unsure about where to go, tell them to exit the terminal and follow the signs which say ‘Rideshare Pick-up Zone’ to the designated area behind the purple Express Park (car park building).
A $5.50 fee will be automatically added to your rider’s fare for any trips to or from Christchurch Airport, so you will not be out of pocket. Collection of this fee from driver-partners on behalf of Christchurch Airport, and payment to Christchurch Airport, will be handled by Uber; you will not be required to pay anything directly to the Airport.
