Together on the road to zero emissions

Uber changed the way the world moves. And we’re committed to changing the way the world moves forward. That’s why we’re committed to becoming a zero-emission mobility platform by 2030 in major cities in Europe, Canada, and the US - a goal that can only be achieved by working together.

Why go electric?

There are lots of reasons to make the switch to an electric vehicle, also known as an EV.

Fuel savings

EVs can enjoy reduced costs with the price of electricity compared to petrol or diesel as fuel.

Better for your city

Driving EVs helps reduce emissions, lower air pollution levels making your city a healthier place for everyone.

EV technology

Drivers who’ve made the switch say their new EVs are comfortable and easy to maintain, and that their riders also love the quieter, smoother trips.

Uber Green

In addition to typical UberX trips, in cities with this product EV drivers can also accept Uber Green trips with an increasing number of riders choosing to travel more sustainably.

Choosing an EV

Important aspects when looking for an EV:

The “range” or distance an EV can cover before needing to recharge is given in kilometers, and largely determined by the size of its battery. So a fully charged 62 kWh battery can average around 354 kilometers per charge, whereas a 40 kWh battery can average around 225 kilometers per charge.

Charging speed

How long it takes to charge an EV will be influenced by two main factors: the size of your battery and the speed of the charger being used. The rate an EV can take in electricity from a charger is measured in kilowatts (kW). A third factor that can affect how quickly your EV charges up is the technology in the car itself - its charging hardware and software. Depending on the model, this can mean larger batteries charge even more quickly than smaller ones.

A typical 150 kW rapid charger can recharge a Kia Niro EV with a 64 kWh battery in approximately 41 minutes from 10% to 80%. The same rapid charger can charge a Skoda Enyaq iV 80 with a 77 kWh battery in approximately 33 minutes.* The more powerful 150 kW chargers are primarily available outside city centers.

A home charger** with a speed of 11 kW or a public chargepoint*** with a speed of 11 kW could get a Kia Niro EV with a 64 kWh battery fully charged in 7 hours. A Skoda Enyaq iV 80 with a 77 kWh battery could be fully charged in 8 hours and 15 minutes.*

Making charging work for you

EV drivers charge using either public or home chargers, or a combination of the two.

Public chargers can come in a variety of types and speeds. As you prepare to make the switch to EV, it’s worth researching the public charging options near to you and for example if you need to become a subscriber to use them.

If you do have access to off-street parking like a private driveway or garage overnight, installing a home charger can make charging an EV convenient and more affordable. Home charger specifications also vary, so exploring which option could be the best fit for your vehicle is well worthwhile.

Most chargers in the Netherlands are currently 11 kW, with more and more 22 kW public chargers coming online in addition to 150 kW chargers, usually around highways and entry roads around cities.

EV subsidies

In the Netherlands, various subsidies and exemptions are available every year at national and local level. Below you will find an overview of these subsidies and exemptions. Follow the links for the latest information.

  • The National government does not incur Motor vehicle tax on electric vehicles until end of 2024.

EV marketplace

We're partnering with major car brands and suppliers to support your transition to an EV. This is why we partner with renowned car manufacturers, vehicle suppliers and charging solution suppliers. This can yield interesting benefits for you, such as favorable financing conditions or advantageous charging rates. Uber is not a party to these deals and agreements.

*Representative examples based on a Kia Niro EV 64 kWh with a 11 kW on-board charger and a 80 kW rapid charger, and a Skoda Enyaq iV 80 with 11 kW on-board charger and a 135 kW rapid charger with data from The Skoda charges faster from 10% to 80%, because the vehicle is equipped with a bigger battery and therefore the manufacturer installed a bigger charger in the vehicle. It is important to research what the charging capabilities are of the vehicle that you are considering.

**Your power grid connection at home determines the charging speed of your home charger. Uber’s home charging partner is Wallbox. They can advise you on the possibilities.

***Public chargepoints in the streets usually have a total charging speed of 11 kW. This means that you can charge your electric vehicle with 11 kW if only your vehicle is connected to the chargepoint. The charging speed per vehicle will go down if two electric vehicles are connected to the chargepoint. For more information on the number of chargepoints and charging speeds, visit this website of the Netherlands Agency for Enterprises (RVO).
