Written byNow that the chaos of NYFW is behind us and the first day of school has come and gone, it’s time to really sink into our September groove and enjoy New York in all its early fall splendor.
We know it’s easy to do, but try not to get sucked into watching too much football (although, some is allowed), and get out and enjoy these events. This weekend, we’re celebrating honey, oysters, folk music and more:
Get Folksy at the Folk Music Festival | Washington Square Park
This Sunday is the 4th Annual Washington Square Music Festival. Head to Greenwich Village to enjoy some tunes in the Sunday sunshine. The first set starts at 1pm, and the festival closes out with square dancing at 4pm. The event is free and open to the public. Find more information here.
Sweeten Up Your Beach Day | Honey Festival at Rockaway Beach

Buzz over to Rockaway Beach this Saturday for the NYC Honey Festival, celebrating the city’s hardworking pollinators. The day-long festival will feature food, art, music, kids activities, a “bee-product marketplace,” and of course, plenty of honey samples. Before or after you get sticky fingers at the Honey Festival, head to the beach and enjoy a lovely September beach day.
Let’s Go Fly a Kite | Kite Festival at Brooklyn Bridge Park

No one can deny the pure joy that comes along with flying a kite. This Saturday, join the fun happening at Brooklyn Bridge Park during the NYC Kite Festival and let your inner child loose. Whether you bring your own kite, or perhaps just a picnic to enjoy on the grass, the Kite Festival is worth checking out, if for nothing more than the city views and kite-filled sky above. Bluepoints, Wellfleets, Beausoleils, Naked Cowboys… So many oysters, why not try them all? New York Oyster Week is back in action with a slew of events happening all over the city. Festivities began September 11, and will continue through the 28th. Find the entire event calendar here. Can’t make it to any of the events but still want to celebrate? Stop by one your favorite oyster bars this week to slurp some down with a cocktail on your own time.

Taste Some BBQ and Talk to Star Chefs | Taste Talks

September 12 kicks off the second year of Taste Talks in Brooklyn. The food and drink festival is bringing together over 100 chefs and speakers who will present, cook, serve, and pour over this weekend at a number of events. Some highlights include tonight’s sold out Mother of Pear dinner (which is in cahoots with the aforementioned NY Oyster Week), Saturday’s sold out Dinner Lab, and Sunday’s All-Star BBQ. The good news here is that you can still at least grab tickets to the BBQ, which will feature culinary luminaries including Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen), Brooks Headley (Del Posto), Max Sussman (Mile End), and Andy Ricker (Pok Pok). Get ’em while they’re hot.
