This holiday season, Uber and Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) are teaming up with Rough Night’s Jillian Bell to help encourage everyone to be a designated rider if their holiday plans include alcohol.

Being a designated rider means you have the freedom to raise a glass without the responsibility of driving after you put it down. This new title comes with a responsibility: designating a driver to get home safely. Because designated riders don’t just promise not to drive, they promise to get home safely.

Today, people are more aware of the dangers of getting behind the wheel after drinking, and thanks to increased education and enforcement, our roads are safer for everyone. However, each day, almost 29 people in the United States die in alcohol-impaired vehicle crashes. That’s one person every 50 minutes in 2016, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Uber and MADD are dedicated to reducing the number of drunk driving deaths – and we are partnering, once again, to encourage everyone to be a #DesignatedRider this holiday season if your plans include alcohol. Whether you take a bus, a train or an Uber, just don’t drink and drive.

So let’s add the #DesignatedRider distinction to the safe roads lexicon, and make it a badge to be worn with as much pride as #DesignatedDriver. Because when combined, they’re saving lives across the country.

To the designated drivers, including Uber drivers, bus drivers and friends, we thank you for being our heroes and helping keep the roads safe this holiday season. To learn more, visit here.
