Face covers or masks are required
Riders and drivers are required to wear a face cover or mask to drive or ride in the US, Canada, India, and most of Europe and Latin America. Our technology verifies that the driver in those regions is wearing a mask.

Every trip is insured
Uber maintains at least $1 million of commercial auto liability insurance on behalf of US drivers while traveling with a rider.
Every driver is background checked
Uber aims to conduct a comprehensive review of a prospective partner’s eligibility before account activation by reviewing motor vehicle and/or criminal records where available, reliable, and legally permissible*.

Door-to-Door Safety Standard
Before every trip, riders must confirm that they’ve taken precautions like wearing a face cover and washing or sanitizing their hands (where required). We also ask that they sit in the back seat.
In-app Safety Toolkit
This is a dedicated place in the app where riders and drivers can easily access key safety information, quickly reach emergency assistance, and learn how to share their location with emergency dispatchers.
RideCheck
Using sensors and GPS, RideCheck helps detect if a trip goes unusually off-course, if there’s an unexpected long stop, or if a possible crash occurred, then checks in to help provide support. Precise features vary by market.
Ready-to-drive Safety Checklist
Before a driver or delivery person can go online, they will be asked to confirm, using a Go Online Checklist, that they’ve taken certain safety measures and are wearing a mask or face cover.
Face Cover Check technology
Technology will verify that the driver is wearing a face cover or mask by asking them to take an interactive selfie.
Driver screening in the US
All drivers are screened before they begin using Uber and annually thereafter.* This includes pre-screening and documentation, driving history review, criminal history review, and new offense notifications (where available).
Community Guidelines
Everyone who signs up for an Uber account across all of our apps is expected to treat each other with respect, help keep one another safe, and follow the law.
Restaurant food safety
Restaurants are expected to meet all relevant licensing requirements, follow regulations, and provide a safe area for order pickups.
Contact-free delivery
Uber Eats users can choose “Leave at door” deliveries, and delivery people are advised to follow food safety best practices that were developed with guidance from CDC and WHO.

*The amount of time this covers will vary across markets and ranges from 6 months to lifetime, depending on records availability and privacy regulations. Certain criminal records are disqualifying if they are reported to Uber, depending on the time that has elapsed since the conviction. In New York City, driving history reviews are conducted by the Taxi and Limousine Commission. Annual screening processes are dependent on open, operational courthouses. Due to COVID-19, this may not be the case and recurring checks may be postponed.
