Get to know nearby neighborhoods

Downtown

Downtown Alameda sits across the bay from San Francisco and offers plenty of family-friendly businesses and things to do. The Historic Park Street District is a part of downtown Alameda. Grocery stores, art galleries, bookstores, produce, and more are available in the area. Donut shops, Chinese, seafood, and many more types of restaurants can be found in Downtown Alameda. Miniature golf, a center for the arts, an arcade museum, and more are downtown for locals and tourists to visit.

West End

A large, older neighborhood in Alameda, the West End is a close-knit, lower- to middle-class neighborhood covering a little over two square miles. Home to families with kids, young professionals, and retirees, this diverse neighborhood features a number of mom-and-pop businesses as well as local and national chain restaurants, stores, and grocery stores.

Trestle Glen

The affluent neighborhood Trestle Glen in Oakland, California, was named after a rail trestle built in 1893. There are different of styles of homes in this neighborhood, including Craftsman, Tudor Revival, Spanish, and Prairie. Some of the favorite restaurants in this community include Shakewell, Belly, Café Umami, and Smokin' Woods BBQ. If you're in the mood for shopping, stop by Bay-Made, Urban Indigo, Rare Bird, Oaklandish, and Oakland City Center.

Produce and Waterfront

The Produce and Waterfront neighborhood in Oakland, California offers quite a few amenities to residents and visitors in the area. You'll find plenty of shopping, grocery stores, coffee shops, restaurants, fitness centers, parks, a public library, and entertainment. Some of the restaurants include the contemporary Italian Lungomare, Ginza Japanese Sushi Restaurant, and Josiah's Seafood Restaurant.

Chinatown

Oakland's Chinatown is an Asian community home to the Asian Branch Library and Oakland Asian Cultural Center. The arts are thriving in this part of town, where several opera clubs are located. Visitors can find plenty of Chinese restaurants, as well as Chinese herbs, imported teas, and shops with traditional Chinese items in Chinatown.

Edgewater

The Edgewater community is located in Oakland, California, and as its name implies, runs along the waterfront in the city. This neighborhood is home to RJR Technologies, the Gathering Place, the California Department of Corrections, and the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Edgewater is predominantly an industrial area.
