At Specs’ Twelve Adler Museum Cafe, a bawdy, bizarre watering hole tucked into an unassuming North Beach alley. Opened in 1968, the cafe is covered from floor to ceiling in art and artifacts, including taxidermied animals, model ships, exotic figurines, and other oddities (walrus genitalia, anyone?) from all over. The dimly lit digs inspire intimate conversation, and the bar keeps the beer, wine, and clever specialty cocktails flowing all night long.
