Nestled in Golden Gate Park is the San Francisco Botanical Garden, covering 55 acres and showcasing more than 8,500 plant species from across the globe, including a 100-year-old Monterey Cypress tree inside the main gate. Daily tours are led by knowledgeable docents, or you can explore the gardens on your own. The on-site Helen Crocker Russell Library of Horticulture houses 27,000 volumes covering all aspects of horticulture, and a bookstore sells botanical references, field guides, and a smattering of souvenirs.
