Clean, casual, and contemporary, Ramen Dojo in San Mateo is a comfortable, unpretentious place to dig into some tasty ramen and other Japanese fare. Chef and owner Kazunori Kobayashi specializes in sutamina, or spicy ramen, but dishes up a nice variety of rich, savory broths. Each standard Dojo bowl comes with two tender slices of roast pork, kikuage mushrooms, shredded bell pepper, and a quail egg. Appetizers include steamed pork gyoza, deep-fried squid legs, and a crispy seaweed salad. This popular spot is often packed with diners--a good omen--so you may have to wait a few minutes to be seated.
