Downtown Oakland is home to the renowned Paramount Theatre, a storied, 3,040-seat Art Deco theatre. Built in 1931, the theatre features opulent interiors, including ornate murals, gilded reliefs, and a grand staircase leading up to the auditorium. The Paramount became a California Registered Historic Landmark in 1976 and was declared a National Historic Landmark the following year. Now home to the Oakland East Bay Symphony, the venue hosts a year-round schedule of musical concerts, variety shows, theatrical performances, and movies. Tours take place at 10am on the first and third Saturdays of each month and last about two hours.
