Located in Golden Gate Park, the Music Concourse is an open-air, oval-shaped plaza flanked by the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum and the California Academy of Sciences. The focal point here is the Spreckels Temple of Music, a bandshell that was built in 1899, a year before the Music Concourse's completion in 1900. The tree-lined plaza features four fountains and numerous statues, including likenesses of a Roman gladiator, Ulysses S. Grant, and Ludwig von Beethoven.
