Featuring three San Francisco locations--Geary Boulevard, Mission Street, and Lombard Street--Mel's Drive-In was the first drive-in diner in San Francisco, opened in 1947 on South Van Ness Avenue. Today, Mel's still serves up its signature burgers, made with grass-fed beef and featuring half-pound patties. The menu includes other drive-in favorites, like the beef and short rib sliders, hot open-faced sandwiches, loaded hot dogs, and hot and cold sandwiches. Entrees include American favorites like the All American Meatloaf, Mel Southern Fried Chicken, and Spaghetti & Meat Balls. The classic fountain serves deluxe sundaes and thick, old-fashioned milkshakes.
