In the heart of Japantown is the Peace Plaza, which was created and donated in the mid 1960s as a gift from Osaka, San Francisco’s Japanese sister city. A five-tiered Peace Pagoda rises from the center of the plaza, a symbol of goodwill and friendships inspired by a series of pagodas in Nara, Japan’s ancient capital.
