Japantown Peace Plaza
Japantown Peace Plaza
Japantown Peace Plaza
Post and Buchanan, San Francisco, CA
In the heart of Japantown is the Peace Plaza, which was created and donated in the mid 1960s as a gift from Osaka, San Francisco’s Japanese sister city. Peace Plaza hosts a number of annual events and festivals, including the Cherry Blossom Festival, the Summer Obon Festival, the Nihonmachi Street Fair, and the Year-End Festival. A five-tiered Peace Pagoda rises from the center of the plaza, a symbol of goodwill and friendships inspired by a series of pagodas in Nara, Japan’s ancient capital.
