For more than 122 years, Fentons Creamery & Restaurant has been tempting sweet-tooths in Oakland. The ice cream shop and diner grew out of E.S. Fenton's business delivering milk by horse-drawn wagon in 1894. His grandson, Melvin, started transforming that milk into delicious handmade ice cream. Today, Fentons continue to offer house-made ice cream with milk that is locally sourced and used within a week of production. In addition to sundaes, floats and shakes, the joint offers grilled sandwiches, burgers and salads. The fresh crab salad sandwich is the house specialty.
