The Cow Palace opened in Daly City in 1941 as a state-owned livestock exposition center. By 1949, it was no longer needed for that purpose, and legislation was passed opening the facility to the general public for a variety of uses. Over the years, it's hosted circuses, ice capades, political conventions, sporting events like Roller Derby and basketball, and concerts, showcasing some of the biggest names in rock and roll. Today, the Cow Palace continues to host public events, including concerts, a dog show, body art show, and ice skating performances.
