Our commitment to safety

We want you to move freely, make the most of your time, and be connected to the people and places that matter most to you. That’s why we’re committed to safety, from the creation of new standards to the development of technology with the aim of reducing incidents.

Building safer journeys for everyone

Driver safety

Count on 24/7 support to help with any questions or safety concerns. Share your trip with loved ones. Our focus is on your safety, so you can go where the opportunity is.

Rider safety

Millions of rides are requested every day. Every rider has access to safety features built into the app. And every ride has a support team if you need them.

The Uber platform was built with safety in mind. Through incident prevention tools and technology that keeps you connected, we’re dedicated to helping you move safely and focus on what matters most.

RideCheck

Using sensors and GPS data, RideCheck can help detect if a trip has an unexpected long stop. If so, we'll check on you and offer tools to get help.

Button to call the local authorities

Easily call local authorities in case of emergencies. The app displays your location and trip details, so you can quickly share them with authorities. Additionally, Uber will receive an alert to follow up on the incident.

Verify Your Ride

Taking our Check Your Ride guidelines a step further, we’ve introduced Verify Your Ride to give you an extra layer of security. Turn this feature on to receive a unique PIN for every ride, then share that PIN with your driver to help ensure that you’re in the right vehicle.

Audio Recording

You can record audio to encourage safe, comfortable interactions on trips. This empowers riders and drivers to monitor and report uncomfortable situations.

Driver screening

To help all drivers meet safety standards, they must undergo a multi-step safety screening both before they take their first trip and as they continue to drive with Uber.

Rider Verification

We implement verification tools for users through their Facebook account when they choose cash as their payment method. If their payment method is electronic (credit, debit, or PayPal), we verify their relevant information.

Masks are no longer required

As of April 19, 2022, riders and drivers are not required to wear masks when using Uber. However, the CDC still recommends wearing a mask if you have certain personal risk factors and/or high transmission levels in your area.

Remember: many people still feel safer wearing a mask because of personal or family health situations, so please be respectful of their preferences. And if you ever feel uncomfortable, you can always cancel the trip.

Updating our no-front-seat policy

Riders are no longer required to sit in the back seat. However, to give drivers space, we ask that riders only use the front seat if it’s required because of the size of their group.

Thank you for helping take care of one another

We know the pandemic has been difficult. But you’ve continued to go the extra mile to help protect our communities—whether it’s wearing a mask, making space for one another, or giving drivers the respect they deserve. Thank you for that.

It’s still important to take safety precautions while riding, driving, and delivering. So make sure to roll down the windows for extra airflow, sanitize your hands before and after trips or deliveries, and always cover your cough or sneeze.

How safety is built into your experience

An inclusive community

Millions of riders and drivers share a set of Community Guidelines, holding each other accountable to do the right thing.

Support at every turn

A specially trained team is always-on support. Reach them in the app, day or night, with any questions or safety concerns.
