Welcome to Uber - get started on your journey!

Step 1 - Upload Your Documents

You can conveniently upload your required documents online or at a Greenlight Hub. You will need the following:

  • Driver's Licence - You must be at least 21 years of age and have a current unrestricted NSW driver licence. You must have held a full valid Australian licence for at least 12 months in the last 2 years

Licence expiry must be 5 yrs or less - no 10 year licences are permitted
  • Proof of ID - Passport, Birth Certificate, Citizenship Certificate, ImmiCard, or Document for Travel to Australia
  • Vehicle Insurance - Comprehensive or Third Party Property Damage. Click here for more detail
  • Vehicle Registration (Uber to Upload) - Must be current NSW registration

Step 2 - Submit Your NSW Driving Record

You'll need to send us a copy of your NSW driving record. You can get this online at the Roads and Maritime Service (RMS) website or in person at the nearest Service NSW Office.

At this time, we will also run a police background check against your name.

Step 3 - Apply for a Passenger Transport Code

You will be required to get a Passenger Transport Licence Code (PTLC) in order to become a ridesharing driver partner with Uber. If you’re happy for Uber to submit a PTLC application to the RMS on your behalf along with a copy of your driver’s licence, simply complete the online form.

For more information about the PTLC - click here

Step 4 - Complete Vehicle Inspection and Get Your Uber Sticker

INSPECTION - Your car will need to have an annual eCheck (pink slip) registration - even if it is less than 5 years old.

UBER STICKER - You can pick up a sticker in person at a Greenlight Hub. If there isn't a Greenlight Hub in your city, you can request to have one mailed to you with this Online request form. Please allow 2-3 business days for mail delivery.

Do I need to get a background check?

All driver partners in NSW need to undergo a police background check before driving using the Uber app. Once you upload your required documents, we'll run a background check on your behalf. If everything checks out, we'll continue your sign up process.

I can't drive with uberX, what are my options?

If you don't meet our personal or vehicle requirements, you might still be eligible to become a delivery partner with UberEATS.

Where can I get an Uber Sticker?

NSW Government requires a removable sticker to be displayed inside the rear driver-side windscreen when you are 'online' driving using the Uber app.

You can get an Uber sticker at any one of our Greenlight Hub locations.

If your city does not have a Greenlight Hub, you may have an Uber sticker mailed to you by completing this online request form.

How much does it cost to sign up?

In most cases, the total cost to sign up is just over $100.

Service NSW charges $22 to obtain your Driving Record. A criminal background check costs an additional $39 to process. Pink slip vehicle inspections are $40.

In some cases additional information may be required that will potentially incur extra cost (e.g. Out of state driving records, medical check, etc).

How long is the sign up process?

Typically the sign up process takes 3-5 business days.

In some cases, extra time may be required to review documents or follow up with additional information. These cases usually involve medical checks, out of state records or added time to process background checks.
