Software Engineer II - Marketplace

About Role

As a Backend Engineer at Uber, you'll be working on code that's closest to the business. Your work will impact live riders, eaters, driver-partners, and operations teams across the globe. Our teams span from the traditional ridesharing business to the new emerging products around UberEATS, our own Mapping technology, and Self-Driving cars.

What You'll do

  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers and other Engineers to help define, scope and implement high quality features that solve critical user needs.
  • Break down requirements into architecture and deliver code, while keeping operational issues in mind
  • Write clear documentation so that other engineers can jump in and get things done
  • Help take Uber to the next level as a world class engineering team

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an engineering field (e.g. Computer Science, Computer Engineering, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience designing, implementing large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience with multiple programming languages (Go, Java, Python) and data stores (MySQL, Cassandra, Redis, etc)
  • Experience with building backend services. Strong algorithm and CS skills Past experience in scaling the systems to work in multiple availability zones.

Bonus Points If

  • Experience in building cloud-native architectures utilizing cloud data stores.

About Team

The Marketplace Platform team is responsible for the core fulfilment platform, which facilitates the core transportation flows for rides & eats. The team's mission is to provide a reliable, performant, and extensible fulfilment engine for Uber and provides the foundation and business models to enable transportation of people & things from origin to destination. This includes how we connect to the mobile devices - API gateway, Streaming Platform to push data from data centres to the mobile device.
