Our team is responsible for telling Uber's story to a wide range of media and external audiences across Canada.

We are looking for someone to lead corporate communications in Canada, based in Toronto. You will report directly to our Head of Public Policy & Communications, Uber Canada.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development of Uber's brand and profile with the media and third parties in Canada, telling the local story around our ridesharing and food delivery services, as well as our engineering and self-driving research teams.
  • Work to tell our story--and the story of how we're transforming transportation and making our cities better--in creative, inspiring ways that resonate with journalists and their audiences.
  • Manage relationships with reporters and external stakeholders across Canada.
  • Handle crisis communications, working across Uber to respond quickly to issues.
  • Define strategic narratives that support change and bringing them to life for employees through creative communications activities.
  • Work closely with local Marketing, Operations and Engineering teams to help amplify the important work that they do.
  • Manage external agencies.

What You'll Need

  • Self starter: Uber is a company of entrepreneurs and we want to work with people who enjoy building things from the bottom up too. Stuff changes fast in our world so you'll need to be highly adaptable as well as calm under pressure.
  • Great advocate: We're looking for people who can distill complex ideas into simple, but intellectually credible, arguments. You'll need to write well and have the creative ability to tell stories--about our product, people and the ways we're helping to improve life for passengers, drivers and cities.
  • Experienced spokesperson: Strong media relations experience and expertise shaping a story and delivering it in a compelling way
  • Team player: We're looking for people who enjoy working with others to get stuff done--and who can deal with the ambiguity that sometimes comes from working cross-functionally.
  • Proven track record with at least 8+ years experience in communications, PR or journalism -- either for a company, a third party or in government -- as well as experience working firsthand with executives.

  • Experience in corporate, product, internal and crisis communications is an advantage; as is prior experience operating in a hyper-growth technology or start up organization.

  • Excellent understanding of the media industry and extensive network of relationships with media and influencers across Canada is a must. We're also open to people with experience in another walk of life, who intuitively get this stuff, and may be looking for a career change.
