Senior Counsel, Litigation
About the Role
Uber is changing the world, and Uber's Litigation Team is proud to be part of that. We're looking for an exceptional attorney to manage an array of complex U.S. corporate litigation, as well as counsel the business as we develop new products and open markets. This position will report to a Legal Director, Litigation and is based in San Francisco or Chicago.
Oversee a diverse range of corporate litigation matters across the country, in a multitude of practice areas (consumer protection, competition, and other general business claims, to name just a few), and at various procedural stages (from pre-litigation threats and small claims to class certification, trial, and appeals)
Take a hands-on approach to all facets of litigation, including fact investigation, drafting and revising legal briefs, responding to discovery requests, preparing witnesses for testimony, and negotiating and drafting settlements
Bring legal work in-house where possible, while supervising all aspects of outside counsel relationships, including staffing, litigation strategy, budgets and invoices, compliance with outside counsel guidelines, and work product
Craft succinct, practical legal advice to achieve ambitious business goals, including counseling on advertising, trade secret protection, and current/future products
- Develop, implement, and enforce company policies and compliance efforts, including training employees on potential litigation risks
*Active law license and minimum of 8 years of experience in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department
Know-how and self-sufficiency to manage a case through pleadings, motion practice, complex e-discovery, dispute resolution and trial
Outstanding legal research, writing, negotiation, and advocacy skills
Stellar case evaluation abilities, integrity, business judgment, critical thinking, and the capacity to oversee a large portfolio of matters
First chair mediation or trial experience preferred * Deposition experience (including presenting witnesses)
- Team player mentality, including good sense of humor and willingness to pitch in on projects no matter how big or small
