Product teams at Uber create the vision for the future of urban mobility: deeply understanding our customers to solve their transportation needs with innovative technology. Whether engineering more accurate ETAs or helping drivers navigate to the perfect pick-up spot, our mapping technologies are integral to the magic of the Uber platform. On the Maps Engineering team, we use the latest ML, GPS, and telematics solutions to make transportation on our platform safer and more accessible.

About the Role

You'll design functionality and design systems that power customer touchpoints across the entire Uber ecosystem - with an emphasis on Maps based experiences for our Rider and Driver mobile apps. You'll take on new and existing location-based interaction and user interface design challenges, that will transform how people and things get from A to B.

You'll collaborate with design-oriented engineers, product managers, and some of the world's best designers, researchers, and writers in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment. You'll craft and ship delightful experiences for people around the world.

What You'll Do:

  • Design end to end solutions, from initial concept through shipping and beyond.
  • Design systematic product solutions to make simple, elegant experiences based on our maps technology.
  • Obsess over the details of visual and interaction design.
  • Work with product management and design peers to define requirements and future opportunities.
  • Partner with our UX research team to better understand the needs of our customers across 6 continents.
  • Collaborate with engineers to build your outstanding designs.
  • Ship, measure, and improve your designs based on quantitative and qualitative feedback.
  • Brainstorm and iterate with your design colleagues to help raise the bar across Uber.
  • Build spacial UX to help people connect in the physical world

Basic qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with mobile product design, user experience, user interface.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in spatial UX--designing apps for the physical world
  • Proven design expertise in consumer-facing Maps for digital offerings
  • Ability to tackle complex design problems for global markets.
  • A portfolio showing your high quality, thoughtful UI and UX work
  • A track record of shipping phenomenal design, and an understanding of what matters at each stage of the release cycle
  • Ability to use Uber design patterns while evolving the framework to seek new use cases
  • Proven understanding of systems thinking and integrating across a platform
  • Love of critique, knowledge sharing, and teamwork
