Staff / Sr. Staff Engineer, Backend - Safety

About the role:

Leads efforts within the organization to drive the development and maintenance of backend services and solutions to support user-facing products, downstream services, or infrastructure tools and platforms used across Uber.

About the Team:

As a Sr. Staff Software Engineer on the Safety Engineering team in Brazil, you will be an early member of Uber's first development center in LATAM. The work you do will initially focus on advanced technologies to improve safety around the world, such as advanced telematics, machine learning, high scale distributed systems, real time data processing and mobile development, among others.

Minimum qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field AND + 10-years full-time Software Engineering work experience.
  • Programming language (e.g. C, C++, Java, Python, or Go)

Technical skills:

Required:

  • Distributed systems

Preferred:

  • Product engineering
  • Scalability engineering

Offices continue to be central to collaboration and Uber's cultural identity. Unless formally approved to work fully remotely, Uber expects employees to spend at least half of their work time in their assigned office. For certain roles, such as those based at green-light hubs, employees are expected to be in-office for 100% of their time.
