Senior Public Policy Associate, Uber Eats

Public Policy
in San Francisco, California

About the Role

We're on the hunt for a Senior Associate to join the (growing) Uber Eats Policy team and lead our restaurant and food policy efforts. This role sits on Uber's Central Policy team and reports directly to our Global Head of Public Policy, Uber Eats.

The Central Public Policy Team has a global remit and is responsible for developing solutions to policy opportunities and regulatory challenges in issue domains that impact Uber's global business. Working closely with on-the-ground Public Affairs and Government Relations and cross-functional partners we develop best in class policy solutions backed by rigorous research and data. The Central Public Policy Team also provides strategic advice and guidance to Tech and Product organizations as well as key executives in the execution of Uber's business goals.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the development and execution of our public policy strategy and narrative relating to restaurants and food
  • Educate & build support with key policy and research stakeholders on the benefits of delivery for restaurants, and local communities. This will include close collaboration with Comms and Marketing to develop campaigns and partnerships that tell the Uber Eats impact story in creative, inspiring ways that resonate with policymakers, regulators and key opinion influencers
  • Demonstrate thought leadership in relation to policy issues such as: the impact of third party delivery on restaurants and small businesses, sustainability & delivery, and new business lines like alcohol delivery
  • Work with internal teams to develop strategies and campaigns to mobilize Uber Eats partner and customer communities in support of Uber Eats' policy efforts
  • Manage relationships with external partners and represent Uber Eats at relevant events/industry groups. This can include partnership creation, building industry coalitions, establishing research collaborations, organizing and managing policy events and roundtables
  • Closely partner with and provide policy counsel to Tech and Operations teams as we continue to innovate and explore new concepts like virtual restaurants. This will include coordinating input across the Central policy and local government relations/public affairs teams
  • Support state & country level public policy teams to craft and execute legislative and political strategies, and campaigns to engage stakeholders and promote and enhance the overall reputation of Uber Eats

What You'll Need

To succeed you'll need to be:

  • _A self starter - _Uber is a company of entrepreneurs and we want to work with people who enjoy building things from the bottom up too. Stuff changes fast in our world so you'll need to be highly adaptable as well as calm under pressure
  • A great advocate - We're looking for people who can distill complex ideas into simple, but intellectually credible, arguments. You'll need to write well and have the creative ability to tell stories--about our product, people and the ways we're helping to improve life for customers, couriers and cities
  • _A strong campaigner - _We succeed by putting together effective campaigns with third parties on behalf of the restaurants, couriers and customers. That means you'll have a bias for action in everything you do--and a willingness to engage in debates, that can often become heated
  • A team player - Success at Uber depends on the ability to organise different teams (internally and externally) around shared goals. It's why we're looking for well organised people who enjoy working with others to get stuff done--and who can deal with the ambiguity that sometimes comes from working cross-functionally

Ideally you have:

  • 5 + years policy or public affairs experience - but we're open to people with experience in other walks of life (e.g. marketing, journalism, law), who intuitively get this stuff and are interested in pursuing a different career
  • A background working on policy issues that relate to online marketplaces, small business impact, sustainability, food systems & safety
  • Experience working with industry associations and building coalitions
