Sr. Strategy and Planning Associate

About the Role

A successful strategy is essential to NeMo (New Mobility: E-Bikes, E-Scooters and more) growth and financial contribution targets in 2020. The Strategy and Planning Associate will be responsible for creating actionable insights from the ground up, crafting strategies and tactics, and helping implement that plan across the region.

The ideal candidate for this role will have strong analytical skills and an appetite for learning how data insights actually play out on the ground. They will need to navigate through stakeholders' needs, be obsessed about making data-driven decisions and be super well organised. The position requires a strong ability to coordinate with multiple POCs across the business, manage relationships with functional areas and drive leadership buy-in.

What You'll Do

  • Help Set Our Strategy: Work closely with and advise business leaders across the company on topics ranging from specific analyses and experiments to annual strategic planning to multi-year visions. Examples include: Reviewing our pricing strategy on bike sharing, scoping the market size of potential new businesses, identifying synergies between business lines
  • Communicate and drive the strategy; be the communication hub of the NeMo organization. From curating and presenting ELT focused business reviews and written updates to creating organization wide updates
  • Manage Projects and Programs: Be the glue that brings teams together to ensure key strategic initiatives reach our customers. Be a hustling multi-tasker, driving cross-functional groups to decisions on strategically important questions
  • Find Facts and Uncover Insights: Leverage our rich dataset to help improve our collective understanding of what our NeMo business. Uncover opportunities for efficiency and growth from algorithmic tweaks to tectonic shifts in strategy. This may range from more traditional analysis projects to complex modeling and business forecasting
  • Build Relationships: Interface with other functional areas (Finance, Product, Marketing, Public Affairs, Legal, Engineering, People Operations, etc.) to ensure we are bringing all available tools to bear on our toughest problem

What You'll Need

  • 4+ years of work experience, preferably in Consulting, Business Intelligence, Investment Banking, is expected, but we'll evaluate candidates with less experience if they meet our other requirements
  • Highly detail-oriented project management
  • Market strategy modeling
  • Experience with process optimization, program management, or strategy based projects
  • Past ownership of projects from planning to implementation
  • Ability to communicate cross-functionally with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Experience telling compelling stories with data
  • Comfortable owning and juggling multiple projects or workstreams at once
  • Ability to turn data into stories / visualizations / decisions
  • Strong Excel and SQL skills
  • Strong, demonstrated leadership capabilities
  • Self-starter
  • Passion for turning messy or unstructured areas into effective and efficient processes/programs
  • Experience communicating complex points effectively
  • Organization & time-management in a fast-paced, cross-functional role
  • Attention to detail while keeping in mind larger strategy
  • Experience with presenting to & communicating with business leader

  • Python and R knowledge are a huge plus

The New Mobility ("NeMo") organization is responsible for identifying, testing, and scaling Uber's next generation of business lines, including electric bikes, electric scooters, public transit, and far beyond.

NeMo Strategy & Planning is a nimble and highly impactful team, responsible for shaping business strategy, owning business intelligence, driving strategic accountability, and partnering with all functions to provide critical guidance, insights and strategic frameworks. The team directly supports the VP of New Mobility; works cross functionally across Product, Operations, Engineering, Marketing Finance, and beyond; and is a thought leader and advocate for NeMo, interacting directly with the C-suite and senior leaders at the Company.
